Skylines of cities are vastly filling up with skyscrapers and superstructures, but in Prague this dancing building is more elegant and beautiful than any of the high-rise buildings of the city. Dancing House nicknamed as Fred and Ginger is situated in the Prague city of Czech Republic at riverside of VltavaRiver. The design of the building is outstanding and built in very non-traditional way which invited many controversies in its earlier days after completion of the building. PragueCity is highly known for its traditional buildings, but this building broke all conceptions of tradition with its unusual design and architecture. Dancing House has daring, curvy outlines like a dancing couple on stage hence the structure was later nicknamed after the legendary dance duo Fred and Ginger.ING company hired architects Frank Gehry and V Milunic for designing this unusual structure with an idea of creating a symbolic structure for the PragueCity. Architects had full artistic freedom and an unlimited budget for while designing this marvelous sculpture due to which this structure is world famous and display picture of the Prague city. The construction of the building started in 1994 and it completed in the 1996 creating a superb structural magic in the history of Prague. The structure has to face several controversies as the house stands out among the traditional-Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings and people were of thinking that the building will not accord well with the traditional architectural
ConceptThe construction and design of this building is so odd, but in designing world it is known as deconstructive (New-Baroque) architecture as it has the unusual shape. The building is constructed to look like dancing bodies when it is looked from the distance. Dancing shape of the building is supported by 99 concrete panels, each having different shape and dimension. The dancing house has two central bodies; first is a tower of glass which is close to half height with support of curved pillars and second part runs parallel to the river. The parallel part to the river is also designed to give an overall three dimensional look to the building with moldings following a wavy motion by placing them non-aligned. The material used in the building to give curvy look to the building includes steel, glass and precast concrete clad revoke and for the construction of the dome metal tubes were used with a mesh of stainless steel.Life in Dancing HouseAlthough the building seems like a museum or a conceptual gallery, Dancing House is used as the regular building of any kind. The building is currently occupied by the various businesses which include hotels and offices. A French restaurant is situated on the roof of the building which gives a magnificent view of the Prague city while the other tenant of the building includes several multinational firms as it is situated next to the busy road of the city. The plans of making it a cultural centre were never considered while planning the building. The interiors of the building were never been the attraction for this building as it provides superb outer structure with its own romantic charm.
