New Delhi: Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (AIDA) is planning to invest $200 million in the real estate. It is the latest addition into the investments of the Gulf sovereign, whose tendency to diversify its investments in newer nations and not the traditional places of investment like the developed nations of Europe.AIDA manages the surpluses that the Gulf emirates earn from oil exports. AIDA has appointed Kotak Realty Fund which is run by Kotak Mahindra Bank to invest the money. In May the Indian finance minister P. Chidambaram had visited the gulf region apparently for the second time in two months seeking investment for India which is Asia’s third largest economy.ADIA already has $400-$500 million investment in India. This includes $50 million investment in a private equity fund called Red Fort Capital and 11.22% of the stakes are in Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS).AIDA is a sovereign wealth fund owned by the Emirates of Abu Dhabi. It has been established for over 30 years to invest the assets of the Emirates to gain long term value. The company’s assets range from stakes in Gatwick airport in Britain to the Citigroup bonds. It allocates about 5 to 10% of its portfolio in real estate.AIDA is not the only foreign player interested in investing in the Indian real estate industry. According to a research conducted by CRISIL the, Indian real estate and construction sectors are playing a crucial role in the overall development of the country’s infrastructure. During 2010-11 the total revenue of the Indian real estate sector was $66.5 billion. This is expected to amount to $180 billion by 2020.Besides AIDA, Donald Trump the American real estate business tycoon has also announced the launch of the company’s first real estate project in India. His company will build twin towers of 22 stories in Pune. The buildings will consist of 44 luxurious condominiums.
