Pune: Ten years back PMC had initiated a mission to enlist all the civic properties that comes under its aegis and now it seems the collar of PMC is getting high as it has successful closed the file with the mark of completion. After taking enormous amount of time, PMC has finally come up with the list which will improve the transparency in lease contracts and asset valuation. As per the Maharashtra Municipal Account Code 1971 Rule 156, asset valuation is made mandatory. Now, as the list is made, property valuation will be much easier and eventually loans for the development can be attained without much effort.Plots, buildings, leased properties, acquired properties, office equipments, furniture and many more assets come in the list of civic properties. Till now there was no practical solution to check if the leased properties were used for what purpose. But as the list is ready, everything will come into accountability. The data/list is uploaded in the website and citizens will now be able to know who is using the civic property and the amount of rent that has been charged.The civic property list is important because it empowers the civic land lease policy which prevents PMC from selling its properties. However it allows it to lease the properties for 30 years (max). Many of the properties have been allotted to the politicians and their relatives who generally pay low amount of rent and doesn’t renew the lease contracts. PMC also owns many hospitals, community halls, schools and libraries that have been leased.
