Pune: Nothing is safe these days. In the wake of increasing vulnerability of the city, 15000 citizens including common people and members of civic societies and political parties have raised their voice to the Pune Municipal Corporation to amend the reforms of draft development control (DC). The citizens are highly concerned about security measures that should be given prime importance in existing and new buildings.The suggestions from the state government to set up security outposts, fire safety apparatus and making buildings blast resistant are still on the papers and there is high need to implement them. After the German Bakery and JM Road blasts, the citizens’ eyes got opened and they are raising the voice to augment the level of security any building gets. It is also important to construct the buildings in a way that it can stand an attack or a blast.The Merani committee report suggested that buildings with come with blast-resistant designs, surveillance operations, light controls and high end security systems but it seems it remained just a distant dream. The civic body is lagging in its pace to implement the drafted suggestions.
