Pune: Using the tool of discount on taxes (which ended on June 30), the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has collected around Rs 104 crore. There were various discount schemes meant for several classes of people who will pay the taxes earlier than the mentioned date. The deadline has recently ended on June 30. PCMC has offered different concessions for different set of people. !0 percent discount on property tax for owners of residential properties, 5 percent for commercial owners, 50 percent for ex-servicemen and 10 percent for women property owners is availed.The recorded amount is till June 25 and it is expected that the total figure will grow much high. It is seen that as the due date nears, people flock to the tax collected centres. Generally in the last three days, rush is very high. The personnel of civic body had said that the scheme is receiving fine response from the citizens. In the year 2012, PCMC has collected Rs 120 crore using a similar scheme.Property tax is one of the largest sources of revenue for the state government. Now there are around 3 lakh properties and it is expected to grow with the addition of properties in locations like Sangvi, Pimple Saudagar, Thergaon, Chinchwad and Wakad.PCMC has made sure that the correct value of tax is being collected and if the usage of property is changed from residential to commercial then the changes has been made.
