Pune New DP to Structure Long Term Approach for Water Supply Issues in City

KhadakwaslaPune: The Development Plan (DP) of the city has framed a long term approach against the water supply related problems in the city. The old Pune is facing many issues regarding the water supply and it requires to be modified considering the future requirements. The recent survey suggests that the present water supply network needs to be modified with pressure monitoring and sufficient analyses.The Master plan is concentrating on the immediate requirements for 2026 and expansions required for the year 2041. The DP will work on the remodeling of the current distribution network to achieve the required distribution according to the future requirement for 2026.The Development plan also states that the current network and distribution system need augmentation for the year 2041. Augmentation also includes the additional pipeline from the water resources of the city.The water quota assigned for the Pune city for every year is currently about 11.5 TMC whereas the city currently consumes water supply of 14 TMC every year from the available resources. The Civic Body has planned the supply management considering that population of Pune is around 35 lakh.The main issues behind the water crisis are the water mismanagement of the PMC and the water losses due to the distribution system like leakages, water theft etc.The Development Plan strategies to cater water supply issues

  • Additional Pipeline from Khadakwasla will be built to cater the need for 2041
