Mumbai: The state government is planning to retain Lavasa’s special planning authority (SPA) status along with few additional clauses. The government will retain this status by appointing a government official as chief officer for the Lavasa project.The committee which was reviewing the status of the Lavasa is waiting for the feedback from the Lavasa Corporation. Urban Development department of the state suggested the revocation of the Lavasa’s special status in the last year. Last year’s report of the urban development department suggested that the Lavasa status should be reconsidered as Maharashtra was the only state who has approved such a status to a private company for such vast developments.The Lavasa has also experienced an objection from the Comptroller and Auditor General in the last year along with urban development department.The Lavasa will be able to develop the land and will also able to sanction the building and developments plan under its jurisdiction after the approval of SPA status by state government. The committee has not yet issued the final report and will never revoke the special status completely. The appointment of the officer will improve the accountability of the project towards government.The government is also considering of allowing the private company for the road development and maintenance along with water supply and sewage management etc. in the nearby areas which at present falls under the respective Gram Panchayats.
