Maharashtra state is blessed with abundant natural beauty all around. Just few decades back it had many areas covered with dense forests and mountains. Sahyadri hill range gives the state an added advantage of having an interesting topography. In each corner of the state you can find a stunning natural getaway. Though modernisation, globalisation and commercialisation have changed the picture but still we can have a chance to explore some of unspoiled beauty of nature. Unfortunately our coming generation may not be that lucky if the present state of deforestation continues. Let me take you to a place that will refresh you with its timeless natural beauty and panoramic settings. The name of this place is Jawahar which used to be the oldest princely state for centuries and seen different rulers situated at an elevation of 447 metres or 1466 feet. Jawahar can be considered a small city and a municipal council under Thane district of Maharashtra state. The place is ruled for most part of centuries by Munke Dynasty. The history of the place is very complicated and that is why I brought a brief outline of various rulers of this small princely state. Jawahar was founded in 1306 AD from that time onwards the different rulers are as under.Founded in 1306 AD ->Jayabha Munke (a Poligar) ->Dulbarrao Munke (1343) (given title Nimshah) ->Deobarrao (Muhammad Shah after converting to Islam) -> Holkarrao (younger brother of Nimshah) -> Maratha empire (on and off from 1742) -> British -> Patangshah IV (till 1905) -> HH Shrimannt Raja Yeshwantrao Patangshah V (from 1938 to 1947) -> Digvijaysinhrao ->MahendrasinhraoIt is said that Shivaji Maharaj while travelling to Surat camped at this beautiful place. The princely state is enriched with natural beauty all around with lush green trees, mountains, waterfalls, rich flora, etc. the main residence of this place is the Worli Tribe who are popularly known for their traditional Worli paintings. Worli Tribes are still living here. Apart from plenty of natural beauty this place also has some tourists’ attraction points like Jai Vilas Palace, Bhopatghad Fort.
