Indore: Government’s initiative to promote the Green Building concept in Madhya Pradesh has failed to catch real estate developers. On the other hand real estate markets of Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad are generously accepted the concept and applied it in different projects.The State of Madhya Pradesh has not even got hold of a single building which employs the concept of green building. The Green building provides, conserves natural resources, optimizes energy efficiency, less water, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to conventional buildings.Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has approved around 352 green buildings across India. Maharashtra stands first with the highest number of green building in the state, followed by National Capital Region. Tamil Nadu stands third in the list. The total no. of registered green buildings is 1909 out of which 187 are in Karnataka. Currently, Karnataka houses 41 green buildings, 39 are built in Bangalore.Centre for Environment Protection Research and Development (CEPRD) has been working on raising awareness to adopt the Green Building concept to balance the ecological system. The 50 to 60% building that constructed are now energy efficient building. But getting certification of green building is very costly and time consuming due to which it has been ignored by most of the builders in Madhya Pradesh.The real estate developers of Madhya Pradesh claim that lengthy certification process and competition present in the market has failed the concept of Green Building in the state.
