Amboli – A Tranquil Hill Station in Maharashtra

AMBOLIWhile looking for new places to explore I came to know about a small hill station known as Amboli located in the southern parts of Maharashtra in Sindhudurg district. Situated on an altitude of 690 metres in the panoramic Sahayadri Hills it is rich in flora and fauna. If you are living in a city of concrete jungle then this place will become one of your favorite natural spot to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. Being the last hill station before the coastal areas of Goa, Amboli is not as popular among people as Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani and that is the advantage here as you won’t need to worry about the large number of head counts on every attraction. This hill station is little unexplored and that is the beauty of the place. It is always thrilling and adventurous to explore places that are not well known and remains hidden. It does not mean that this place does not receive any tourists. Actually it receives about fifty thousand tourists yearly. This count is relatively low than other hill stations in the state. The forests of this place gives you a pristine and serene environment to enjoy. Though it is an eco hot spot but commercialisation is causing a reduction in the green cover. This place was once in the eye of the British but they chose Matheran over Amboli because of latter’s heavy rainfall problem. One of the important sources of Krishna River lies in Amboli. There is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva in a cave from where the water emerges to flow into Krishna River. This temple is known as Hiranyakeshi temple. This place is discovered by locals much before British and fortunately British moved to Matheran and this place is saved from commercialisation and became unexplored till recently. The actual beauty of nature is seen here as the area is covered with thick forests and caves. The legend says there are exactly 108 temple of Shiva are here hidden but only 12 of them are discovered. The rest are still waiting for you to find, uncover and explore. There are several water falls in the area. Among these one is the highest with an average height of seven metres is really amazing. During monsoon the entire place turns into lush greenery with waterfalls emerging from here and there like white satin ribbons. The entire view is like a treat to our eyes. Though there are not many tourists’ points like in other places but stillMTDC has listed eight spots that can interest tourists:

  • Shirgaonkar Falls
  • Mahadev Falls
  • Nagatta falls
  • Hiranyakeshi Falls & temple
  • Sea view point
  • The Kavelsad point
  • The Parikshit Point
  • Mahadevgad Point

I personally feel that instead of counting points of interest one should enjoy the natural exquisiteness of the place as it has now become a rare sight in the cities like Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore. Just enjoy the serenity, unpolluted environs and the nature at its best here in Amboli. You can take help of locals as they are friendly and ready to help.Accommodation:There are some good hotels in Amboli not very expensive with services like restaurants, room service, cab service, etc. You can also opt for MTDC resort here.Local transport:The local transport in the area is the three wheeler rickshaw. There are some private taxis services as well.Best time to visit:One should avoid April and May as this time of year weather is hot but rest of the year is pleasant here and relatively cool. During monsoon the place is at its best appearance.Route from Pune:Pune –> NH 4 –> Sankeshwar –>Ganddhinglaj –> Anjara –> AmboliDistance from Amboli:Pune 400 kmKolhapur 129 kmMiraj 140 kmMumbai 549 kmRuchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
