Postponement of Ludhiana Flat Allotment Due to Verification Trouble

gladaLudhiana: The victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Ludhiana are being given flats by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). The allotment of flats was supposed to be decided on the basis of lottery on April 2. But certain reasons have pushed the date of drawing of lots to May 15.Of the 2,000 applicants who wanted a share in the middle income group (MIG) and lower income group (LIG) houses everyone had their credentials verified in details. The GLADA additional chief administrator Baldev Singh said that this exercise was carried out in accordance with a court order issued by Punjab and Haryana High Court. In the final list uploaded in the official website of GLADA names of 6,400 applicants were posted to be verified as eligible to apply for the MIG and LIG residential flats. Dates for drawing of lots were also fixed. However some applicants whose applications were rejected or who had been chosen only for a particular category of flats have requested a review.As a result of granting this request for a review, dates for drawing of lots had been postponed. It will definitely take up some time to verify all the claims and update the final list of qualified applicants.Against the thousands of applicants only 790 MIG and LIG flats are currently available to be allotted to the riot victims. These flats are in Dugri Phase I and II. 102 residential flats in the CRPF colony had been freed from unlawful possessors and 14 which have to be evacuated by March 31 had also been handed over to the GLADA by the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
