Chennai: In the Indian real estate market the demand for affordable housing has always been more than the supply. Recently Hong Kong based private equity firm Brick Eagle Capital Advisory has announced that it is about to invest $50 million in affordable housing development in India. Brick Eagle Capital has already invested in a project in Chennai and is looking to close its investments this year.Brick Eagle Capital Advisory MD & CEO Rajesh Krishnan said that the firm is looking to shop around for investing another $50 million after closing the present $50 million deal. In India the firm has invested $20 million in Sheltrex Housing Pvt Ltd. Sheltrex specializes in technology enable real estate development. Presently it is constructing an affordable housing project in Chennai with the capital provided by Brick Eagle Capital. The first block of the initial phase will be developed over a land of 27 acres. Houses will start from Rs 15 lakhs and will have the latest urban designs with technology. Already 1,800 units had been sold in the first block. The first block will be constructed by the end of 2013 while the completion of the first phase will require 2 years. Sheltrex is planning to expand their housing projects all over India over an area of 2,000 acres.Brick Eagle Capital is hoping to make 3 times the profit over its invested capital from the Sheltrex project. It has not completed a single project yet so there is no actual estimate of the profit it made. Krishnan said, “Sheltrex draws together the many strands of architecture in an urban context.
