Spread over an area of twenty two (22) acres of land this park is located in the Heart of city on the M.G. Road in Bangalore. Being a part of the parade grounds the Cariappa Memorial Park is named after the Field Marshall K. M. Cariappa who served in the Indian Armed Forces. You can see a seven feet tall statue of F. M. Cariappa at the entrance of the park. This park was established by the Indian Army in the year 1996. It is also maintained by the Indian Army. The very inviting bandstand catches good crowd when six military bands perform here at every fortnight. The bandstand is surrounded by green lawns where viewers can sit and enjoy the performance comfortably. The credit for initiating such a beautiful place on an area of around 40 acres goes to Hyder Ali who was the ruler of Mysore during eighteenth century while his son the great Tipu Sultan not only continued the legacy but also added new chapters to it. He finished the garden and gradually improved the quality and added varieties of flora to the garden by importing rare plant species from around the world. Today it is spread over sprawling 240 acres of land in Southern Bangalore.
