\"\"The garden city of Bangaluru <\/a>is having many buildings that attract tourists because of their appearance, grandness as well as historical importance. The Karnataka High Court building is one of them. It was established in the year 1881 and authorized by the constitution of India.\u00a0 The current chief justice is Mr. Vikramajit Sen since 2010. This building is also known as Attara Kacheri which literally means eighteen offices or departments. The Attara Kacheri is situated amidst green surroundings opposite to the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of legislature of state of Karnataka in Cubbon Park area of Bangaluru.\u00a0 The popular M.G. Road<\/a> is two kilometers away from Attara Kacheri. The building is constructed using red bricks and stones. It is a two storeyed building. The outlook of the building in vibrant red does compliment the graceful white Vidhana Soudha situated in front of Attara Kacheri even though the Vidhana Soudha was created after almost a century.This building was an outcome of the necessity of a larger space at the time of Tipu Sultan whose Summer Palace had limited space to serve for his core eighteen departments as his government expanded. Under his orders a new building is constructed and it was named by him as Attara Kacheri (Hindustani language).\u00a0 The planning to build such a building for government use started in the year 1864 on the directions of Great Tipu Sultan by then commissioner Bowring. He planned to set up a full- fledged secretariat building. The construction work went on for almost five years and finished in 1868. He total cost to build this building was Rupees 4.5 lakh. The architectural style that is used to build this structure is European Classical style having Greco- Roman elements using stones and red bricks. The front tall columns built in Corinthian style gives it that elegant look. The credit to materialize the plan for this impressive building goes to Mr. Rao Bahadur Arcot Narayanswamy Mudaliar. Initially this Attara Kacheri was called Old Public Offices where the general revenue as well as secretariat of the state government functioned but today it houses the High Court of Karnataka.It is quite unfortunate that this historic building was ordered to demolish due to some reason but M. Bhaktavatsala along with his companions put efforts to save this great edifice and the judgement is given in the same building High Court to stay the order of demolishing the structure. Now the state’s High Court housing the building while the other government offices shifted to the Vidhana Soudha. Attara kacheri is standing in its full strength since the regime of Tipu Sultan and still continuing its charm to attract explorers from around the country.
