Isn\u2019t it exciting to visit a place full of nature\u2019s blessings and fresh air? I am talking about Daman and Diu. Daman and Diu are called Damao-e-Diu in Portuguese language. Yes it is the second smallest union territory of India on the western coast. For over 450 years this place was under the rule of Portuguese like Goa. That is why you can see the Portuguese influence in the architecture style and living of people here. It is not a new place to explore as its history dates back to 2000 years and it has witnessed many rulers and their invasions. The rich history starts from first century AD and seen various rulers until sixteenth century when Portuguese noticed this piece of cake on the western coast like Goa. They captured Daman and Diu from Shah Rulers. They ruled till 1961 even after the independence of India.Daman is a quite favourable tourist spot because of its pleasant weather, serene silvery beaches, tranquil atmosphere along with many historical places situated here. For many history students this place is a delight to explore.\u00a0 Due to closeness to two major states of country people here speak languages Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi and English. Some people still speak and understand Portuguese language but now the influence of Portuguese is fading away with time. Daman has a river named Daman Ganga which divides it into two parts. The Motidaman and Nanidaman forts are two worth visiting places in Daman.The eighteenth century Jain temple near the river is worth exploring. There is a Senath \u00a0\u00a0 Mahadev temple of Lord Shiva in the nearby Dabhel village.Diu is an exclusive place to visit as it is a small island but connected by two bridges from the mainland. The main river on this tiny island is known as Chassi. Apart from forts it has a temple of lord Shiva named Gangeshwar. Jalandhar beach, Nagoa beach are two important tourist places.\u00a0 You can get the chance to see many avian lives on this pleasant island like rock pigeon, doves, parrots, etc. many other migratory birds can also be watched during winters between August to February. If you want to explore Portuguese architecture then must visit the churches here.People here celebrate festivals with full zeal and zest by lighting beautifully the areas here.\u00a0\u00a0 One interesting fact that catches many tourists here is the easy availability of liquor domestic as well as international brands. You can also indulge in shopping here as there are quite good markets to take your breath away and keep you engaged in their traditional art works like handmade articles, bamboo mats, baskets and a variety of best quality liquors.The places to visit in Daman and Diu are Diu fort, Panikota Fort, Cathedral of Bom Jesus, Church of Our Lady of Rosery, Se Cathedral, Lighthouse, St. Jarome Fort, Devka beach, Jampore beach, and temples.It is a pleasant experience to visit these beautiful lands in the Indian Territory with nature\u2019s blast under the row of palm trees and soothing winds.You may have not heard that much about this place like Goa but it is true that it has everything to sooth your senses that Goa offers to its visitors but the fact is that people are not that much know about Daman and Diu as they know Goa. Once you explore these beautiful places then you would love to come again. Mumbai is just 200 kilometres from Daman and Diu.\u00a0 You can reach easily from Mumbai airport to Daman by hiring a taxi or cab from airport. From budget hotels to fine accommodations can be found in Daman and Diu to make your stay comfortable and pleasant.
