\"\"Ahmedabad<\/a> is a city full of religious destinations. There is a mix of cultures of Hindu and Muslim but still the cultural harmony is seen here. On one side it has historical mosques while on the other side city has beautiful temples dedicated to Jains and Hindu Gods. Let me take you to one such shrine of Jains popular as Hatheesing or Hutheesing temple. This temple was created during mid nineteenth century around 1848. The credit to build this magnificent structure goes to a very rich Jain merchant known as Sheth Hatheesing. He was the devotee of fifteenth Jain Tirthankar Dharmnathji and that is why he dedicated this beautiful temple to God Dharmnathji. The elaborate carving on the structure does represent the classy architecture of that time. This temple is situated just outside the Delhi gate in Ahmedabad.Pure white marble is used to build the temple and decorated with exclusive detailed carvings on roofs, pillars and walls.\u00a0 The Hatheesing temple is one of the best holy shrines of Jains\u2019 in Ahmedabad.\u00a0 It is said that it took almost ten lakh rupees to create this awesome temple and at that time ten lakh was actually a huge amount to spend. The temple resides on a smooth sprawling courtyard having fifty two shrines with Jain deities. These Jain deities are called Tirthankaras. These 52 shrines are situated in a row having impressive arches and again striking complex yet clear carvings. The entire premise is very neat and clean just like any other Jain temple and no one is allowed to eat anything inside the temple.The actual structure is of two storied with carved porches on three sides while a huge beautiful dome can be seen on the front porch.\u00a0 The large corrugated dome is on the support of twelve carved pillars. The main shrine is called Garbhagrah is situated at the East side having Dharmnathji\u2019s idol in white marble. The entire structure of the temple including pillars, columns, figural brackets are stunningly carved. A new addition to the Hatheesing Jain Temple is a seventy eight feet tall tower called Mahavir Stambh created here just like one at Chittor in Rajasthan. You may find some resemblance in design to that of Mughal period architecture.The stone work is done by usually Sonpura and Salat communities that are famous for their traditional artwork. They have created many outstanding structures with their artwork like forts, palaces and religious places. The Hatheesing Jain temple is one such creation by Salat community\u2019s Premchand Salat. It is actually an exceptionally beautiful example of stone work with variety. The entire structure fulfils the purpose of its creation effortlessly.\u00a0 No doubt it is a must visit place while exploring Ahmedabad.
