The ambiance in and around this beach is soul soothing. The scenic beauty of this place is further enhanced with statues of prominent personalities flanking the promenade. Statues of Thiruvalluvar, Kamarajar, Bharathiyar, Thanthai Periyar, M.G.R, Triumph of Labour and many more makes this beach even more special.Adjoining the beach are some of the renowned institutions and buildings like the Chepauk stadium, University of Madras, Presidency College, Vivekananda House, Forensic Science Department and All India Radio (AIR). Apart from this other miscellaneous structures are also found along the beach like the Aquarium, Marina Cricket Ground and Annie Besant Park.Marina Beach was recently renovated thereby improving the environment around this beach. Emphasis on cleanliness has been a major part of this renovation task. In 2009 the walk along Marina beach was declared to be a plastic free zone ensuring thorough cleanliness in and around Marina beach.<strong>Facts about Marina Beach:<\/strong>It is the second largest beach in the world.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Length of the beach promenade is approximately 6 km.<\/li>\n<li>The beach area is increasing by 40 sq.mt every year.<\/li>\n<li>Olive Ridley turtle nests found on the beach.<\/li>\n<li>There are two swimming pools along the beach called the Anna swimming pool and Marina swimming pool.<\/li>\n<li>A 34 ft tall artificial waterfall was installed as a part of the Government&#8217;s initiative<\/li>\n<li>Independence Day and Republic Day air shows are held at this beach.<\/li>\n<li>India&#8217;s first beach volleyball championship was held in Marina Beach.<\/li>\n<li>Chennai Marathon, India&#8217;s biggest city marathon is held alongside the Marina Beach.<\/li>\n<li>An oval shaped skating podium has been constructed for recreational activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Government of Tamil Nadu has put in a fortune to renovate and maintain this beach. Financial resources have been diverted towards the beach cleanliness and adding new recreational centers for public entertainment. Adequate parking facilities and safety measures have been ensured in order to make it a memorable experience for the visitors who come in large numbers to visit this charming beach.
