This museum also adds to the distinctiveness of city of Pune as it is one of its kind museums in entire country.It is a distinctive place to visit because here you will find the amazing world of joint legged animals that quite an important species on the earth. This place may not attract everyone as most of us may not like the sight of such creatures but the truth is that they are significant part of nature. For the young ones it is a new experience to explore these so many of these joint legged animals at one place. This museum is not just displaying these animals but also has some other objectives that include educating kids about these species, encouraging them to study the nature, making them to understand the importance of these species in human life and environment and these species play an important role in medicine industry, agriculture and social life.The initiative to start this museum is taken by Mr. S. M. Ketkar who was a nature (arthropod) enthusiast from his young years. The centre of attractions of this museum is those arthropods that Mr. Ketkar collected in his college days. He founded this museum of Arthropods in the year 1961 to display his wide collection of these species with an aim to educated people about these wonderful creatures of God. The most important thing about this place is that you get know the species displayed systematically according to the classes in Arthropods for example Crustaceans, Insects, Myriopoda, Arachnida<\/strong>, etc. Of these categories you may not recognise the actual species but if I tell you that you may see here lobsters, Prawns, Crabs, Beetles, Worms, Cockroaches, etc. then you will instantly get it what this museum is all about. It is a place to experience the world of multi legged species on earth. Apart from the display of arthropods, various research and educational programmes, nature study tours and various competitions are also organised here. Various short term courses on Entomology are also conducted here.It is certainly a very different place to visit in Pune<\/a>. You get a chance to see these multi legged animals closely.
