It is said that Goa is the best place to live in the entire country due to many factors. If you cannot live here then visit it once or twice to get the reason why this small state is recommended as the best place. Apart from enjoying the soothing beaches if you want to go into history then I have a perfect place for you. It is the Goa State Museum. It is an interesting place worth making a visit if you really want to enjoy old artifacts and historic collection displayed according to time scale.The collection of this museum was initially placed at the department of Archives and was managed by the Archeology and Museum unit.\u00a0 Then on September 29th, 1977 a proper museum was opened in a rented place which was situated at St. Inez in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/goa\/panaji-properties-12\" target=\"_blank\">Panaji<\/a> and it was opened for public viewing. Currently the museum is shifted to a new building situated at the EDC Complex in Patto. This museum of Goa state was opened for public viewing on 18<sup>th<\/sup> June, 1996. The then President of India inaugurated the Goa State Museum.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The specialty of this museum lies in the fact that this place makes alive the centuries old history of Goa via the preserved arts, sculptures, history, culture and priceless antiques.Now it is time to know what you can look forward when you visit this museum. You will be pleased to know that it has a vast collection of at least eight thousand artifacts which includes Hindu as well as Jain artifacts as well as the sacred scriptures of these religions.\u00a0 The display has the following interesting pieces:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carved stone figures<\/li>\n<li>Wooden articles<\/li>\n<li>Clay Models<\/li>\n<li>Rare paintings<\/li>\n<li>Bronzes<\/li>\n<li>Rare old coins<\/li>\n<li>Manuscripts<\/li>\n<li>Handicrafts<\/li>\n<li>Anthropological (related to origin of human societies) items<\/li>\n<li>Old printing press<\/li>\n<li>Newspaper and books printing plates of old times<\/li>\n<li>Portuguese period artifacts<\/li>\n<li>Portuguese era Notes<\/li>\n<li>Portuguese era furniture pieces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you enter the museum a very impressive carved figure welcomes you. In the sculpture gallery the figures are placed in such a fashion that you feel they are alive and roaming around as they are kept on small pillar shaped stands spread all over the room. \u00a0A very beautifully carved wooden chariot is quite an eye catching at the display. When you explore the Portuguese era furniture you find heavily carved tables and high backed chairs that remind us the story of brutal invasion and ruling of Portuguese in Goa for centuries. There is a big library in the museum to explore. The museum is currently divided into twelve different sections to display items in an organized way to general public separately.
