Vishrambaug Wada is one of such historic places that are still standing to tell us the rich history of Pune. This historic building is situated at Thorale Bajirao Road in the centre of Pune city. It used to be a lavish residence of the last Peshwa named Peshwa Bajirao II during early seventeenth century. It has a three story mansion with attractive entrance and woodwork in the balcony. The total area of Wada is approximately 20000 square feet. This structure was built in the year 1807 with a spending of rupees 3.5 lakh. The Vishrambaug Wada completed in six years. The last Maratha Peshwa Bajirao II felt that Shaniwar Wada is not a good place to stay due to some bad experiences. He called Shaniwar Wada an ill-fated or unlucky place for him. So he had chosen to make Vishrambaug Wada his residence. This Wada was constructed beautifully keeping in mind that it will be a royal residence that is why fine carvings on wood is seen and the columns are seen having art work in Suru format. He is said to live here with his 123 servants for different tasks. This place was his home for next eleven years but later he was caught by British and kept in custody in Bithur, a place near Kanpur. After some time his wife named Varanasi Bai had also accompanied him in Bithur. There were various schools and educational institutes started from this place in order to make education available to masses like:• Sanskrit school (year 1821)• Government Engineering College• Deccan Collage• Pune UniversityTragedyThe eastern wing of Vishrambaug Wada caught fire on October 31 in the year 1880. This fire had completely destroyed most of the structure of the Wada. Nobody had a clue how this mystery fire started at the first place. Later on the structure was rebuilt and restored to retain somewhat its original shape with help of Government and public contributions.Pune Municipal Corporation purchased this Wada which was under the British Power in the year 1930 at a cost of rupees one lakh. It is really sad that we had to buy our own heritage from outsiders. The operations of Pune Municipal Corporation were done from here till 1959.Current statusCurrently this place houses a post office on the ground floor while on the upper floors some other government offices are there. It has a small museum too which displays some of the artefacts of Maratha time and the credit for this museum goes to Great historian Baba saheb Purabdare.Vishrambaug Wada Plan (Restoration plan)Thanks to the Heritage Corridor Plan that government (PMC) the restoration work is on the cards and this work will be completed in three stages. It will start from the main building which was the residence of king Peshwa. The good part of restoration plan is that PMC will try best to retain the originality of the Wada. For example the windows, wooden pillars, motifs, red tiles of sloping roof, the court yard, etc will be tried to keep the same or recreated as the original.Total amount spent till 2004:Rupees 2500000Ruchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн

It won’t be wrong if we call Pune city a fine historic place because it has so many beautiful historic places in and around.
