This temple is one of the oldest temples situated in the very heart of city and has a story attached to it. The historical building of Shaniwar Wada is just a walk away from the temple. This simple but beautiful temple is constructed in the year 1893 by Shri Dagdusheth Halwai who was a sweet maker at that time. The temple got its name after him. He was a gentleman who lost his son to an epidemic called plague. Due to the loss of son he and his wife both went into deep grief and depression. To bring them out of such sad condition his guru Shri Madhavnath Maharaj advised them to make idols of Ganesh and Dattatreya. The guru also told them to look after these idols as he would do his son. Both of them did the same and later on they made the temple of Ganesh and formed a trust called the Halwai Ganpati Trust. This trust is considered the richest in Maharashtra as there are loads of donation comes everyday from devotees. Thousands of devotees visit the temple and at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi the count goes unlimited. There is an interesting story attached to the celebrations of festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak who played important role in fighting for freedom for our country was a good friend of Dagdusheth Halwai who later became a wealthy businessman. He initiated the public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi so that people can come together and unite against the British. Before this initiative people use to celebrate this festival in their homes only as public gathering was prohibited at that time by the order of British. The temple is constructed in such a way that devotees can get the easy glimpse of Ganesh from outside the temple only. High security is being arranged in the premises to protect this very significant landmark of Pune from antisocial elements. The idol of Ganesha is exceptionally beautiful and holy. The ears of Ganesh idol are made or solid gold. The total weight of gold that is being used to decorate the lord Ganesh is approximately eight kilogram. Due to such a precious metal in large amount is here, security cameras are installed at different places. There is an insurance of rupees one crore for the idol of Ganesh in this temple. Though the premises is very small but is beautifully decorated from top to bottom. The temple is very well managed by the trust. Recently there was speculation of plotting bomb in or near the sight of the temple as this place receives large number of devotees visit every day during aarti and puja time. The coconut offerings to the idol go in lacs during festival season of Ganesh Chaturthi. There are many celebrities visit the temple during Ganesh Chaturthi as well as other time of year. The Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust receives large donation that is used in maintaining the temple and apart from this they also have an old age home which started functioning in May 2003 and is called Pitashree located at Kondhwa in Pune city. The premise of Pitashree is built with a sum of Rupees 1.5 crore. It also houses and educates forty impoverished children. This rich and kind trust which is functioning since the inception of Sarvajanik Ganesh Festival also provides ambulance services to under privileged and operates health centers in tribal areas that come under Pune district. The idol of this temple is considered to be very lively and it is said that the wishes of people come true if asked with good intensions. The pooja is performed here twice daily. One should visit the temple early morning if you want to avoid traffic as this temple is in the centre of city that is usually much crowed. One can reach here easily from any part of city as state transport and auto rickshaw are available.Ruchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн

Pune darshan is incomplete unless you visit and get the blessings of the most popular God, Dagdusheth Ganesh.
