We do consider our kids while decorating and arranging our homes but we should not forget or neglect the need of our elders who either lives with us or comes to visit us whether they are our aging parents or our elderly relatives. One important fact here is that making a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/dream-homes-to-get-costlier\/\" target=\"_blank\">dream home<\/a> is once in a lifetime thing and we spend most of our life in it. Thus if we make senior friendly home then it is also our future home when we will get older. At that time we will feel the most comfortable if we have adopted senior friendly tips while designing our sweet home. Here are some of such important and useful tips to make your home comfortable and pleasant place for elders in the family.<strong>1.<\/strong> We can consider aging parents as small kids as most of the things that we keep in mind while doing up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/useful-tips-to-decorate-your-kids-room\/\" target=\"_blank\">kids room<\/a> , we need to consider for elders as well like for example the path way\/hallways should be kept clear and traffic free always. It will help the kids as well as the seniors to prevent fall. Kids are always in hurry and elders usually can\u2019t see properly. That is why it is good for both of them and for you to keep the path ways free from any clutter or shelves or plants, etc.<strong>2.<\/strong> Proper lighting in their room is important so that they can see things &amp; read books, do their chores comfortably and properly.<strong>3.<\/strong> Having a bed with a convenient height is favourable for elders as usually older people refrain from sitting on a low heighted bed or sitting area due to joint problems or arthritis.<strong>4.<\/strong> If senior in your home is moving on wheelchair or walker then make sure that his or her room is spacious enough for them to move around freely.<strong>5.<\/strong> Keeping one arm chair is a good idea as it will help them to sit comfortably while reading or writing. Arms of chair can be a good support for them to sit firmly.<strong>6.<\/strong> The room should have windows and curtains that can be opened and closed easily. The windows should be sound proof so that outside noise can be restricted.<strong>7.<\/strong> Electric switches should also be fixed at a proper height and place so that elders won\u2019t face any problem in finding and switching then on or off.<strong>8.<\/strong> Bed side double switches are very convenient to operate in night. A night light should be there in senior\u2019s room.<strong>9.<\/strong> Do not place things of their importance at a very high or very low place as it may increase the chances of accident. Make sure to have storage at a convenient level to be operated easily.<strong>10.<\/strong> If you have stairs in your home then fix a handle to help the elderly in climbing or getting down.<strong>11.<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/tips-to-change-the-look-and-feel-of-your-bathroom\/\" target=\"_blank\">bathrooms<\/a> sometimes can be very dangerous place for seniors as most of the accidents happen in bathrooms. To avoid such fatal accidents always fix antiskid flooring in the bathroom, the toilet seat should be of proper height, the operating switches too should be easy to operate. You can fix handles for holding and supporting in the bathroom.<strong>12.<\/strong> There should be sufficient lights in the bathroom to avoid mishaps. A shower curtain can be fixed to prevent entire flooring to get wet. A bath mat should be placed outside the bathroom.<strong>13.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/tips-to-enhance-your-balcony\/\" target=\"_blank\">Balcony<\/a> in the home should also have antiskid flooring to avoid slip.\u00a0\u00a0 You can fix a two seated swing if you have enough space on the terrace. It can become the favourite place for them.<strong>14.<\/strong> Make sure that their room should have all the stuff that they need and making a personal corner for them is not at all a bad idea. They can treasure their belongings there.<strong>15.<\/strong> Split levels in home can be accidental for elderly. Avoid any such structures in home and if it is not possible then make sure to highlight such places to attract the attention immediately.<strong>16.<\/strong> Keep the doors of shelves or closets closed to avoid any accidents.<strong>17.<\/strong> A phone with important numbers directory in senior\u2019s room is a good idea as it can serve in emergencies.<strong>18.<\/strong> Things that are used together should be kept at one place to avoid confusion. Their medications should be kept in a place that is very well reached by them with ease.<strong>19.<\/strong> Make sure the windows are having safety grills for security of seniors.<strong>20.<\/strong> Make comfortable work station in the kitchen for elderly to work smoothly.Our aging parents have given us all the comfort and pleasure in our life.
