In a time period of a decade the city has completely changed and the nearby villages have submerged in the main city that resulted in rapid expansion of Pune in all possible directions. Pune\u2019s climatic conditions, cheap space availability, proximity to commercial capital of country, connectivity to all major cities, qualified manpower availability makes it the most venerable choice for corporate to come here.\u00a0 The population of Pune has increased very fast that mainly due to migratory population that come from other parts of city for education or employment purpose and start living here as the opportunities don\u2019t let them move to other places. The positive aspects include rapid development of city, new automobile industries, consumer durable industries, chemical industries which are finding the perfect base in the city, development of new IT parks that is pulling the talent in thousands from around the country giving a rise to the residential demand, growing number of quality educational institutes that are also playing significant role in attracting students from different parts of country who get golden employment opportunities in Pune after completing education. People like to settle down in Pune because it offers them an environment of hill station and luxurious lifestyle with benefits of developed city and shopping centres of international standards.Growth statistics and development in all aspects gives thumbs up for the city but we should not neglect the other side of the coin. The negative or dark side of this development could lead to chaos and major problems in near future. Due to increase development the land will get scarce and the natural green cover will vanish in the hands of big developers. The city can lose its recognition of being a hill station as the builders are continuously cutting hills and green patches to develop their projects. A natural imbalance can affect the climatic conditions that are assumed to be the most pleasant today as compare to other cities. If we compare the past with present then we can understand how fast the green cover of city is shrinking. The roads of city are not up to mark. As the population is increasing the number of vehicles is going up and that is approximately 29 to 30 lakh today. Are we ready to accommodate such a number of vehicles on city roads? Actually it is progressing. If today we are facing traffic problems, huge parking problem, accidents, longer commute time then think what will happen in coming five years?\u00a0 We can see patches of corruption on the roads that lead to frustration to a common man who has to use the road every day. There are many flyovers are under construction in the city in order to make easier the traffic congestion but actually they are becoming the cause of such congestion as the work is progressing in tortoise speed. Every summer city is facing water crisis, electricity cut, not only summer some parts of city face these problems throughout the year that shows the loophole in the growth of city. The slum population is increasing day by day and if proper arrangements are not done then it can grow further and will add to further problems.The growth chart definitely encourages us to praise the city and its growth drivers but we need to take some serious actions to make our city what it is worth? The need of the hour is to have organised development along with proper planning keeping each and every aspect of development in mind. Development in an organised manner leads to future benefits to its citizens but just building huge infrastructure without giving much attention to the problem areas can take you nowhere. Government, development authorities along with the local people should get along to address such issues like saving the green cover, conserving water, waste management, traffic management and systematic and organised development of city. The traffic discipline and car pooling can help to control congestion. Big developers can take initiative by building eco friendly and energy saving structures. Government should take steps to curb corruption in order to get quality roads and flyovers in the stipulated time frame. The growth is not in place as there is a scarcity of public gardens in most parts of the city. Government and development authorities should plan for these common amenities for common people in order to make city look beautiful not just a jungle of concrete. The gap between the right planning and its implementation needs to be eradicated.
