\"\"We all know very well Pune<\/a> is witnessing record breaking growth in all possible directions and fields whether it is industrial sector, manufacturing sector, Information Technology sector or education sector. It has just progressing in flying colors. But as it is known that every coin has two sides just like that this development is also has the dark side. What we are not taking seriously is the problems associated with this fast development. We need to ask ourselves are we ready to accommodate this development? Are we ready to accept new challenges arising due to increasing population or work force that is pulling into the city in order to cash the opportunities? Are we ready to put a huge increasing volume of vehicles on our roads? Are we growing in an organized manner? Actually there are a lot of questions that are bothering and the answer we have for all these questions are either \u201cNo\u201d or \u201cWe don\u2019t know\u201d.\u00a0 It is better to wake up before it is too late. In this article I am going to discuss one of such problems and suggestions to solve this problem.\u00a0 The parking problem in Pune city is one of the worst in the country.Here are some points that cover the problem areas in simple language:<\/strong>1. Number of vehicles is more than the space availability.2. The volume is continuously increasing along with the growing population and the parking space is getting scarce.3. Roads are narrow in most of the parts of city.4. No proper planning for parking vehicles is observed on roads in important parts of city.5. More and more commercial<\/a> complexes and offices are coming up in the congested areas making the situation even worse.6. Visitor\u2019s vehicles not allowed sign boards in housing societies and commercial places encourage vehicle owners to park vehicles on roads.7. Most of the malls and entertainment centers do not have sufficient parking space for the customers and it results in crowding the roads and making the traffic in that area pathetic.8. The main city markets like Laxmi Road or Tulsi Baug areas assure you not to get any parking due to congestion and lack of space availability.9. The unplanned and unorganized development has contributed much to parking problems in the city.10. At many places in the city the complexes where the ground level should be used for parking purpose, is used for business purpose. Thanks to sleeping Government authorities.11. Now as the city is developing the standard of living of its citizens has got a boost and a large portion of population is affording a four wheeler and some percentage from upper middle class to higher class have more than one four wheelers that is one factor responsible\u00a0 for parking problem in city.12. One of the main reasons of parking problem is lack of proper public transportation system that compelled people to have their own transport or vehicles and thus the vehicles are flooding the city roads making it just not bearable.13. Government is just sitting and watching the tough times of people but not putting efforts to solve this major problem of city and its citizens.Suggestions that can help in solving the problem of parking in the city:<\/strong>1. Government authorities should honestly work in improving the situation of increasing traffic and parking problems in the city.2. It is the high time to improve the public transportation system as the population is rising at a fast pace.3. Pune has a large number of two wheelers and that adds to pollution if there is better way to commute like local trains or frequent quality bus services or further more metros to facilitate commuters can help drastically in reducing vehicles on roads and parking places.4. Solving the parking problem without public participation is not possible. We can help in reducing traffic and parking problem by car pooling which will not only help in reducing number of vehicles on road as well as in reducing pollution.5. All shopping centers and entertainment centers must arrange sufficient parking spaces for their customers to uncrowd both sides of roads from vehicles outside the mall.6. Proper pay and park system must be there so as to minimize confusion and encouraging parking of vehicles at proper place.7. Any problem arises when things are not pre planned and organized and the same thing has happened in the city too. It has developed very fast but the space inside the city is limited and thus in main city areas problem of parking hits the people very hard. Roads are not wide enough to place vehicles on both the sides, buildings or showrooms in these over crowed areas have no plans for their customers\u2019 vehicles parking and if they have any it is just limited. The visitors are forced to keep their vehicles on roads.\u00a0 Laxmi Road and Tilak road are the best example of these situations.8. Government authorities should act strictly on encroachments on roads by shop keepers as they add to the problem and make it even worse.9. Violation of parking rules should not be accepted. The vehicles should be parked the way they are supposed to be.10. While solving parking problem the pedestrian\u2019s problem should also be considered and foot paths should be constructed on both sides of roads in the city.11. Proper sign boards of parking area, no parking area, even and odd date system, parking charges, clear zebra crossing must be displayed on the sides of roads in order to make it recognizable by riders and car owners.12. By making public transportation cheap, frequent but comfortable, government can encourage people to commute by public transport instead of using their own vehicles.13. Constructing multi level parking lots in dense crowed areas can help visitors to park their vehicles safely.
