According to the written statement presented by Venkaiah Naidu &#8211; Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister, the ministry is in talks with the stakeholders for its proposal for providing \u2018Homes For All\u2019 by 2022.He further said that a Technical Group has evaluated the lack of urban housing in the urban localities of India. The shortage is of 187.80 lakh dwelling units. According to the Minister, in past three years, 2,20,741 residential units have been constructed under housing schemes like Rajiv Awaz Yojana (RAY), Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Affordable Housing in Joint Venture in the city areas.With the shortage of 30 lakh dwelling units, Uttar Pradesh, holds the first position which is followed by Maharashtra with lack of 19 lakhs units, 13 lakhs in West Bengal, erstwhile 13 lakhs in Andhra Pradesh, 12 lakhs in Tamil Nadu, 12 lakhs in Bihar, 11 lakhs in Rajasthan, 10 lakhs in Karnataka, 9 lakhs in Gujarat and 6 lakhs in Jharkhand. Since the population is less in Jharkhand as compared to other states, the shortage of dwelling units is also less.In our country, about 70.63 % of city dwellers get tap water supply within, in proximity and away from their residential premises.
