\"amravati-airport\"<\/a>Mumbai: <\/b>Maharashtra state cabinet has given the permission to the proposal regarding expansion of an airport at Amravati. The government will provided 336 hectare land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of Amravati airport.The government has asked AAI to build an airport at Amravati instead of handing it over to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) which will be developed on the lines of the Jalgaon Airport. The land required for the complete development is about 300 hectares, out of which 282 hectares of land has already been acquired and further process is in the pipeline.AAI has put certain conditions for building the Amravati airport which includes land lease for long a period. The government would provide the land and will also contribute about Rs 90 crore for the project while remaining investment will be done by the AAI.The airport development was earlier allotted to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd, but it will now be developed by the AAI. The development will be completed in three years and whole development will not be taken place on BOT basis.The airport will now also have a night landing facility and taxi way will also be developed. The existing airstrip will be expanded up to 2500 meters.
