The entire state seems bathing in greenery. Youngsters prefer this pleasant season to go for some adventurous outing. If you also feel the same way then I have an ideal destination for you. It is known as Sagargadh. The other name of this hill fort is Khed Durg. It is located in Alibaug region in the state of Maharashtra at a small distance of just seven kilometres from popular tourists\u2019 destination Alibaug. As the name suggests Sagargadh is an ancient fort belonged to Maharaja Shivaji situated at a height of about 452 metres which means 1357 feet from sea level. This fort is a perfect place if you want to indulge in an adventurous activity. The fort is easily visible from Alibaug Pen road. You can reach here by using the road that begins from Khandala on Alibaug Pen route in the east. It is one of the best one day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/picnic-spots-near-pune\/\" target=\"_blank\">picnic spots near Pune<\/a>.On the way you will find a small shrine known as Siddheshwar temple and an Ashram. If you feel tired you can take a break at this place and can visit this temple. If you have chosen the monsoon season for this trip then you will be fortunate to enjoy the beautiful waterfall flowing at this place. For Sagargadh you need to catch the route just before the ashram. From this place you can start trekking to reach the Sagargadh Fort. It takes about an hour to reach the fort. When you reach the fort you find the entrance gate in a poor condition. The fort of Sagargadh is almost in ruins but some portion of the structure is still intact and reminds us of the history connected to Shivaji. While exploring the fort you can see two decaying bastions and some fortifications.There are a temple of Lord Ganesha and a Shivlinga in the fort but does not seem to be used anymore. There are two water tanks inside the fort. One is small one and another one is a little bigger and known as Pandav Kund. There is a plateau in the fort. It is called Sati Plateau because there are nine tombs of Satis lying here. There is another attraction at this place. It is called Wanartok or Vanartok which is a Pinnacle standing adjacent to the fort. It is actually a thumb shaped erect mass of land. This pinnacle is quite frequented trekking place and preferred by Sahyadri climbers. The fort is completely deserted. From the top of the hill you can enjoy the panoramic views of surroundings including Alibaug and greener mountains. You won\u2019t find any history plates in the fort to know about the details of its past. It is said that this fort once belonged to Shivaji Maharaj and he had given it to the Mughals in the Treaty (agreement) of Purandar. Sagargadh Machi (Wadi) is the base village of Sagargadh fort.<strong>Accessibility<\/strong>There are three ways to reach the Sagargadh:1. Khandala route2. Vaghede route3. Bail Khind route<strong>Word of caution<\/strong>The surroundings are thickly wooded and thus be careful of reptiles in monsoon. The visibility in rains is limited here.
