Though it is a noteworthy Hindu festival, without any geographical obstacle, Diwali is celebrated with enthusiasm and fun all over the world. On the dark night of Amavasya( no moon night), the entire country glitters with the bright illumination of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/celebrate-green-diwali-year\/\">Diwali<\/a>. Every religion in India has their own significance of this festival but mostly Diwali marks the cheerful welcome of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after victoriously winning over the demon Raavan. The Lord was greeted by lighting oil-lamps and bursting crackers, this is how the celebration took place and still takes place.This auspicious festival is celebrated for 5 days; the festive marks its beginning with Dhanteras. The goddess of wealth, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day. The occasion is said to be auspicious for purchasing any form of precious metal like gold, silver or any utensils. In Maharashtra, this occasion is rejoiced by offering the prasad of lightly pounded coriander seeds which is known as \u2018Dhana\u2019 in Marathi along with jaggery. In south India, cows are worshipped as they are seen as incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi. The first oil-lamp (diya) is placed at the home entrance on this day.The second day of Diwali is known as Narak Chaturdashi. This day is also observed as Choti Diwali (small Diwali). On this day, Lord Krishna triumphed over demon Narakasur. On Narak Chaturdashi, people in Maharashtra and south India wake up before sunrise and have bath with uptan( paste), wear new dress and burst crackers. In west Bengal, this day is observed as birthday of Maa Kaali. Kaali is one of the forms of Goddess Durga, people in Bengal, set up pandals and perform poojas.The third and main day of Diwali, Lakshmi pooja is celebrated with full fervor and delight. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity is worshipped. Almost all the religion people, get up early in the morning before sunrise, clean the home, have bath, make colorful rangolis and burst crackers. In evening Lakshmi pooja is performed, sweets are distributed and colorful fireworks can be seen all over the sky. In South India, the elder member of the family applies sesame oil on the head of all the other family members in morning before taking bath. Playing cards or gambling is quite popular tradition in north. According to mythology, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati played dice on Diwali hence it is said that that gambling on this day will bring wealth and prosperity in your life.The fourth day of Diwali is observed as Bali-Pratipada or Padwa in Maharashtra and Govardhan Pooja in north. On this day Govardhan Parvat (mountain) is worshipped. Padwa is believed to be auspicious for purchasing gold, silver, property, vehicle or any other useful item. Normally men presents gift to their wives.The fifth and last day of Diwali is dedicated to the relationship and bond between the brother and sister. Bhaubhij or Bhaidhuj is popular is north and Maharashtra. According to legend the lord of death, Yama visited his sister river Yamuna. The sisters welcome their brothers with aarti and prepare delicious food for their brothers.
