It is located in the centre of city near the Shaniwarwada and it is said that some soil and stones of Lal Mahal were used to build the Shaniwarwada for luck. The Lal Mahal is made of red bricks. It has a statue of Jijamata and carved representation of young Shivaji who is ploughing the land with a golden plough with his mother and his guru Dadoji Konddev is looking at him. On the terrace you will see four umbrella shaped structures that is quite attractive. The palace has the pictorial representation of significant events of Shivaji’s life in the form of big oil paintings on the walls. There is one beautiful garden that is called Jijamata garden in the palace. It is now a recreation place for kids and senior citizens. There is one fibre model of Raigad with horsemen and one huge map of Maharashatra state that shows the forts of Shivaji Maharaj. It has swords and other items used in those times on display. The present Lal Mahal is the reconstruction of original Lal Mahal. The actual Lal Mahal was established in 1630 AD by Shivaji’s father Shahji Bhonsle who was a sardar in the Bijapur sultanat. He was given territories in Pune. He was residing in Bangalore at that time. He decided to send his wife Jijabai and son to Pune. He built the palace for residence for his wife Jijabai and son Shivaji and gave it the name Lal Mahal. They stayed here for years till the time Shivaji captured his first fort, Torna in the year 1645.The Lal Mahal is famous for an encounter between Shivaji and Shaiste Khan when Shaiste khan had acquired the Lal Mahal in the absence of Shivaji Maharaj in Pune. Shaiste Khan had camped in the Pune City with huge Mughal army. Shivaji Maharaj attacked the Mughal Army which was residing in the Lal Mahal by means of surreptitious guerrilla attack, and after defeat when Shaiste khan started running through window Shivaji Maharaj cut off fingers of Shaiste khan.At the end of seventeenth century the palace was turned into ruins due to continuous attacks on the city. The present red palace is built by PMC but it is built in a different style than the original Lal Mahal because of lack of information. The exact location of the original palace is not known but it is said it was somewhere near present Shaniwarwada and area was also not known. The construction of the new structure started in 1984 and completed in 1988.The place is worth visiting.Timings: 9am to 1pm in the morning4pm to 8pm in the evening.Entry fee: Rs. 3 per person.Ruchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн

The Lal Mahal or the Red Palace is a famous monument in Pune.
