In India alone, Facebook has around 82 million active users whereas Twitter has over 20 million users. Therefore people on a grand scale use social media to connect, share and express their views. Apart from the common activities, social media has now become a fresh platform for the homebuyers to voice their complaints against the delinquent real estate builders. People earlier used to find it difficult to tackle with the problems related to realty sector. Customers had no common source where they can come together share their issues and look out for solutions. Being in small groups their voices were either left unheard or neglected but now with the help of social networking, the customers can be heard globally.Delay in possession, lack of quality work, maintenance problems, mismanagement are the common issues faced by the homebuyers. Amongst these, delay in delivery of properties has become a significant concern which has caused a rage among the homebuyers. According to a latest report, more than 25% of the projects have not been delivered as per the scheduled date. In prime locations like Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon and Noida, the total committed supply has not delivered as per the scheduled time. A considerable mass of projects has been delayed this year. In such circumstances, when customers felt the need to express their ire and raise complaint against the builders, social- media turned to be their lifeline.<strong>How Social-networking sites can aid the unaided homebuyers?<\/strong>Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter has huge number of users and followers in India. These sites have an extensive geographical reach and can be easily accessed from any corner of the world. This is one and only option to bring together the large community of homebuyers. Word of mouth easily gets spread through social media. With the help of these sites, you can \u2018like\u2019, forward a message or share a link about any topic. Homebuyers can create Facebook pages and Twitter handles to take action against the fraudulent real estate builders. In fact, the furious homebuyers have already created several Facebook pages and Twitter handles to raise their complaints.<strong>Success stories:<\/strong>Social-networking has already become a sensation among the homebuyers as most of the builders have positively reacted to the customer problems. One of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/gurgaon\/new-projects\">residential projects in Gurgaon<\/a> where the possession was delayed, 1200 homebuyers got together on a Facebook page to protest. Later the builders assured the homebuyers with 20% of discount on each apartment and even agreed to double the amount of compensation on the delay. In another case, home owners in Mumbai of Worli area who got a court order to demolish some portion of their housing complex due to the irregularities by the developer have used social media to raise support for their issue.
