It tells the onlooker what the shop is all about and creates the first impression. Since it is the deciding factor of whether a potential customer will or will not enter the shop, it is very important to put your best products here and arrange them in an appealing manner. The arrangement of retail products in the front display window and elsewhere in the store is called visual merchandizing and it is so important that one can actually even make a career out of it.Window display can bring in a customer in four steps:<strong>Attract<\/strong>: The display is supposed to be attractive enough to make people stop and take notice. Elements like color, style, movement, special offers, lights etc can attract people&#8217;s attention.<strong>Interest<\/strong>: If the products on display are interesting enough to stop a customer on the track he\/she will look closer at the product. At this point the product will be displayed well enough to show all its details. This will hold on to and spike the customer&#8217;s interest.<strong>Impress<\/strong>: sometimes not the product but only the style in which the products are displayed can be enough to impress and make a sale.<strong>Action<\/strong>: The customer is satisfied with what has been displayed on the window and enters the shop to make a purchase or to check out other products.If you want your customers to go from the attraction to action stage here are steps you can take.<strong>Balance<\/strong>: A balance between display items and space is very important. Don&#8217;t clutter your display space with all sorts of items that you believe are worth displaying. Keep only a sample of what you have, possibly the best one and if the onlooker is interested he will walk in to find out more.<strong>Use plenty of light<\/strong>: Thoughtful and well planned use of light not only makes display items more visible, it also makes them more attractive. If you are selling crystal items then make sure each and every item is so lighted that the light is reflected off every single etching. The items will look so impressive that a person who had no intension of buying any crystal item may make a purchase.<strong>Theme<\/strong>: You can choose a theme and design your display your display window accordingly. If you are trying to sell winter clothes you can make a winter theme with artificial snow, Christmas trees, festive decoration and mannequins dressed in winter clothes taking part in winter activities.<strong>Backdrops<\/strong>: Backdrops are backgrounds in front of which the products are placed. Backdrops are used to magnify the visual effect. But take care to keep the backdrop more subtle than the products in the foreground. Otherwise the onlookers may get confused about what you are trying to sell. The backdrop must never become the focal point.<strong>Art of display<\/strong>: Just don&#8217;t pile the display items in the window. Instead find interesting ways to do the same. If you are decorating the display window of a furniture shop instead of putting your best pieces in the window randomly, choose your best living room pieces like a sofa, center table, floor lamp, TV cabinet, a book shelf and a few other items and arrange them in your display window in a manner they would have been displayed in an actual living room. If you show your customers how your products look in real life they can arrive at a decision sooner.
