Now, tall is pass\u00e9. Every building needs a twist to be really interesting. So the architects of the Cayan Tower in Dubai literally added a twist to the building.Cayan Tower, known as the Infinity Tower prior to its completion, is the tallest twisted tower in the world. It has a 90 degree twist. It is 1,004 ft tall and has 80 storeys. It was inaugurated in June 2013 and according to the developers 80% of the total 450 apartments are already sold. The total cost of construction of the tower was around $ 272 million. Units include 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments as well as duplexes and penthouses. An apartment in the Cayan Tower can cost upto $ 435,000. The cost will vary along with what kind of an apartment one wishes to purchase. But Cayan Tower clearly is worthy of the price and it is not only due to the amazing architectural design.The Cayan Tower is designed by Skidmore, Owings &amp; Merrill (SOM), the famous US based architectural group who have also designed other world renowned structures like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Sears Tower in Chicago. Twisting towers are not new to the world but where the Cayan Tower trumps over the other twisting towers, such as the Turning Torso in Sweden, is that it has no single pillar around which the cantilever plates are made to twist at a definite angle. In the Turning Torso several cantilevered plates are placed on a straight structure and each plate is turned slightly away from the last one to give the building its twisted shape. But in the case of the Cayan Tower the lager floor plates of the building required the structure to be actually twisted. Each floor was twisted 1.2 degrees as the levels were raised to achieve the 90 degree spiral. The building resembles the shape of a helix.The Cayan Tower prides itself on being located at the Dubai Marina, an artificial canal city and the most in-demand area of Dubai. Besides convenience of proximity to a number of schools, hospitals, international stores, five star hotels, restaurants, Dubai International Airport and the Palm Island. Being hence located the Cayan Tower also offers a panoramic view of the Palm, the Marina and the Arabian Sea.
