The major cities of India has witnessed rapid change in realty as these cities are in major demand for construction and to meet the demand from commercial, residential and retail sector developers and builders are creating huge spaces, townships and residential areas. All this development from one side looks brilliant and quite positive but the other side has a different story to tell. Though the demand is meet but on the cost of environment. Isn&#8217;t it? How many of you know that when a building is constructed a lot of energy is used and green house gas is emitted that causes global warming. You might be thinking that I am going too far and the song of global warming is just a phenomenon to scare people. I know majority of population of a developing country do not take it seriously or even neglect the fact unless and until some fatal consequences do not occur. The truth is each and every effort to save our environment counts no matter what is the level of the effort.It is just like the fact that says every drop counts. Let me give you some statistics that might open your eyes. The buildings in the world are the major contributors in the green house effect on the environment. The study shows that approximately 40 percent of world\u2019s total energy is consumed by buildings. It is not done here as they also consume approximately 25 percent of world\u2019s total wood production and as we all know buildings cannot be constructed without water thus 16 percent of water is used in its construction. You may think that it is a general idea but actually if you seriously look into the figure you will understand its importance.The consumption of energy is not the only problem the buildings also emit green house gases that too one thirds of the total emission which is a huge contribution towards the causes of global warming. The construction of buildings not only consumes lots of energy but also it leaves behind the piles of waste that if not managed properly turns into pollutant for environment. The point is that if we cannot stop constructing new buildings then at least we can reduce carbon footprints by creating green buildings. And believe me constructing green buildings is cost effective and beneficial not only for builders, residents but also for environment. Green buildings are those structures that use less energy, less water and produce lesser waste.There are some other factors as well that can make a building green like resource conservation, renewable energy feature, water conservation feature, proper waste management, use of eco friendly exterior as well as interior materials of construction and decoration, etc. these features minimize the impact on environment and can provide healthy atmosphere to its residents.Studies show that green buildings\u2019 operational cost is usually thirty percent lower while their investment at the time of construction increases by maximum eight percent. People living or working in a green building are more efficient and healthy.They give approximately 12 to 15 percent more output than people living or working in an ordinary building. The investment done at the time of construction of a green building usually is a onetime investment and is recovered in a few years by the means of savings on operating cost of building though out the life of building. These sorts of buildings have higher brand value in future. They are the healthier option to choose by an occupant. These buildings are not only economically beneficial but also safe for environment. Green buildings should not only have eco friendly features but also should be constructed using materials which are recycled, less toxic, high biodegradable, durable for long time, low energy consumer, etc.The fact is that people are becoming aware of the fact that green buildings can give them and their families a healthy life, good air quality and better lifestyle but still there are a lot of efforts need to be put together to change the vision of majority of population in our country. If we spread awareness of a green living more and more people will come to know about it and will demand for a safe and healthy living. Thus the developer has to create such residences and commercial spaces that will be green. Actually developers can play a major role in creating green environment as they are the ones who give the final product and if they will create green homes people will automatically accept the offer which can promise a healthy life for them and their families.
