The city is not behind in the field of art and culture as well as it has many art galleries and no doubt good number of art lovers too. Through this article let me take you to one of most prestigious art galleries of Mumbai known as the Jehangir Art Gallery.This gallery is established in the year 1952 by Sir Cowasji Jehangir in the memory of his late son Jehangir on the opinion of K. K. Hebbar and Homi Bhabha. The entire cost of creating and constructing the gallery was borne by Cowasji Jehangir. Currently it is maintained and organised by Committee of Management. Located at 161, Kala Ghoda just behind the famous Prince of Wales Museum in south Mumbai this gallery is one of the most attractive art Galleries of city. The nearby landmark is Gateway of India. On 21st January 1952 the gallery was inaugurated by G. B. Kher who was the Chief Minister of Mumbai (then Bombay) at that time.The place serves as an art gallery as well as an auditorium. The art gallery is one of earliest concrete structures in Mumbai designed by Durga Bajpai. It has four exhibition halls for exhibiting art pieces. The art gallery is quite inwards as it has an auditorium as well. It may be a good idea to have an inward art gallery in early times but today it may not be suited for modern art galleries. The auditorium in the structure overlaps the art gallery shine. The gallery is designed by G. M. Bhuta from G. M. Bhuta &amp; Associates. There is a terrace art gallery which is used to display photography and visual arts.There is a huge wavy shaped cantilevered entrance hugs the street. You can see the Art Plaza Gallery just outside the Jehangir Art Gallery. You can imagine the significance of this art gallery as this colossal institute is linked to the rebirth of Indian art in the history. The other attractions at the Art Gallery are Natesans that are the India\u2019s earliest licensed antique dealers and the very popular Samovar Cafe which is quite significant place since 70\u2019s culture. It serves the great tasting Indian coffee to its customers. No doubt this art gallery is a great place to explore Indian arts and crafts and is a paradise for art admirers.
