\"mumbai-under-construction\"Mumbai: <\/b>Under the Environment Protection Act (EPA), the Union Environment Ministry is scrutinizing construction projects across the city. Under this survey, the ministry will examine projects across the city and issue relevant notices for projects which have not taken mandatory permissions or approvals form the environment ministry.So far, the union environment ministry has come across over 30 such constructions where project construction was started without required mandatory permissions. Projects that have been scrutinized by the ministry will not be affected but projects without mandatory nod will get stop-work notices issued under the section 5 of the Environment Protection Act.Lavasa Hill city and Adarsh society which led to great controversies in the past were constructed without proper clearances. The ministry has come across several such violations in the city and issued memorandum in late 2012. This memorandum allows the ministry to prosecute developers under the section 15 of the EPA.If developer gets convicted then he\/she can face a penalty of up to Rs 1 lakh or imprisonment for up to 5 years. In previous cases, no stop-work notices were issued to defaulters and they were later easily granted permissions for project constructions.New directives were given on June 27, under which work of a project will be halted when clearance procedure is in progress.
