\"old-delhi\"Delhi<\/strong>: When asked from the residents of old Delhi about the houses they live in, they would always say that they are living in a perpetual risk. After incidents of building collapses in Mumbai, people have forced their brains to understand the need of survey of buildings. Many of the buildings in Old Delhi are more than 60 years old and haven’t been repaired even for once. The cracks can be clearly seen on the face of the buildings and the residents just hope for their apartment’s longer life. Apart from this there are many buildings that have been declared unsafe by the municipal corporation but still people are living in them. This is a matter of great danger.Usually the corporation conducts survey before monsoon to count the unsafe structures but this year it remained pending. Previous year, the civic body has found around 160 buildings that are unfit. Both corporation and residents are facing problems regarding the repair of buildings. Few of the times the occupants of the buildings are not willing to spend for the repair work and otherwise the authority officials doesn’t show any seriousness.70 buildings in Pahahganj, 200 in Walled City area pose danger but only 27 have been repaired in past few years. According to records, Delhi has seen most collapses. In 2011, 68 cases were recorded claiming 60 lives and many injured.In the energy of producing new buildings, we should not forget our old ones that are fading and poses a great danger for its occupants.
