\"VERSOVA-BEACH\"As the city of Mumbai is situated on the coastline of Arabian Sea it has many beaches at its sea shore. Among these many beaches one is Versova Beach which is famous for its scenic beauty and fishing community. Versova is actually high class neighbourhood located in Andheri in the western part of Mumbai city in the state of Maharashtra. This area is quite popular among the tourists and locals for its beach and Versova Fort. Versova is a place where the oldest residents of Mumbai live and they are Kolis which is a fishing community of Mumbai.This small village is a historic place which faced different rulers and unfortunate enemies. It was initially under Maratha Rule and at that time the name of the place was Vesave which literally means \u2018rest\u2019 or \u2018in a resting place\u2019. In the year 1694 the place had to face the worst as the innocent residents of village were brutally murdered by an army of Arabs who landed here from Muscat without any reason. The details of this village were found in the write-ups of Gemelli Careri in 1695.Then Portuguese captured the place and ruled for decades here. They built a church named Our Lady of Health Church and several Kolis were converted to Christianity at that time. By the year 1720 the place had seen growth as the fishing business of locals flourished. Portuguese also built a fort here. The Portuguese lost the village to Maratha Empire in the year 1739 and had to leave the place. After ruling here for more than three decades British captured the place in the year 1774 under the leadership of Colonel Henry Keating. British also opened a training facility here in 1800 but had to move it to other place in old Mumbai because of a fever epidemic which killed many of their soldiers.The beautiful beach of Versova is a spectacular place but the waves here are quite unpredictable and during high tide the entire beach disappears in the sea. That is the reason you won\u2019t find any permanent construction at the beach. At one end of the beach is situated the Kolis, fishing community as fishing is the primary industry of the area. Massive rocks are used here to safeguard the buildings from the sea waves in the area. Numerous fishing boats can be seen at the coast of Versova. Farmers here also cultivate methi (fenugreek). Swimming is strictly prohibited in here due to unfaithful waves.Taking a stroll on the beach can be a serene experience. There are many hotels in the area to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The setting sun looks stunning at the beach with its red impressions on the sky. Just relaxing at the sandy beach is the perfect thing to do here.
