Silvassa is actually comes under Dadra and Nagar Haveli which are the Indian Union Territory. It is the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. It was ruled by Portuguese for a long time and that is why we can see clearly the Portuguese influence in the culture, people and lifestyle here. Portuguese used to call this place by the name Vila De Paco d&#8217; Arcos.You must be wondering what is so interesting about this place if it is an industrial hub today. Actually this place and its surroundings are like haven for trekking enthusiasts who are looking for a backpack outing. The greenery, wild patches around Silvassa is a visual delight for visitors. There are several gardens in the city itself to relax and enjoy the nature. The Deer Sanctuary and the Lion Safari are the added attractions for visitors. If you like to explore historic churches then it is the right place for you because of the Portuguese ruling this place is adorned with many Roman Catholic Churches and Portuguese heritage. Lakes and rivers enhance the splendour of natural beauty of a place and Sivassa is a place of such advantage. This place is responsible for the popularity of the Worli culture in the country. Considered as a home of Warli people, Silvassa has sizable population of Warli people who speak Worli language. This language is actually born from a mixture of Marathi and Guajarati languages with a local accent. There is another section of population belonging to Roman Catholic sect here who speaks a slightly different form of Portuguese as an effect of Portuguese ruling for a long time.It was not always an industrial hub. Till 1985 it was just another small town like other villages having only tribal population.
