This decision was taken to implement the state government\u2019s decisions of improving the structural audits for the buildings. After the recent building mishaps state government improved the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act.The Municipal Corporation has told owners of the buildings which are over 30 years old to conduct a structural audit and then submit the report to the civic body. The whole process of audit and report submission must be done within a year and they will need to continue to do so after every 10 years.PMC recently conducted a survey while working on the development plan for the old Pune which concluded that the city has around six lakh residential properties, 75,000 non-residential properties and about 24,000 open plots.20000 properties in the city need to be repaired immediately with the exception of dilapidated Wadas. Despite interest from PMC the housing societies and owners of the buildings over 30 years old have not even responded to the proposal of the PMC.PMC officials said that societies and residents should voluntarily participate in the audit and contact the civic authorities. The PMC could not deliver required mechanism and manpower to conduct these structural audits hence owners have to carry these audits for themselves.Property owners are unwilling to pay the charges for the structural audits as the cost of the audits is higher.
