Yes the dolls are the subject of this museum where I am taking you today. Isn&#8217;t it fascinating as I never been to a museum entirely dedicated to dolls. This museum is internationally acclaimed and recognised around the globe. The name of this museum is Shankar&#8217;s International Doll Museum. it is founded in the year 1965 on November 30th by political cartoonist K. Shankar Pillai. The speciality of this museum is that it has the largest collection of dolls from around the world and no doubt kids specially for girls it is a paradise but I can assure you that it is absolutely a wonderful place to explore no matter what age is yours. It is situated in the Children&#8217; Book Trust Building at the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi. The museum has covered an area of 5184.5 sq ft of the first floor of the building. The museum has a separate entrance gate and a winding staircase to climb up. The inception of the museum dates back to 1957 with merely 1000 dolls but the current museum took its shape in the year 1965 only. Right now it has a collection 6500 dolls on display belonging to eighty five different countries. Each doll here very carefully presented and shaped keeping in mind the country they belong, the occasion, the religion, physical features, character, dresses, jewellery, posture, body language, etc. The museum has two sections. One section displays dolls of European countries like United Kingdom, Poland, Former USSR and Yugoslavia, Greece, Mexico, Thailand, South Korea, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, etc. The second part of museum exhibits dolls of various Asian countries including Middle East, Africa, India, etc. you can see here the dolls from various states of India. In this Indian section the dolls are exhibited in different thmes like Dance of India, Brides of India, Man and Woman of India of different states, etc. The very eye catching are the dolls in vibrant traditional costumes of Rajasthan, Kashmir and Kerala. In the year 1980 the dolls of this museum won the first prize known as Golden Peacock Feather at The Dolls Biennale in Poland. The Kabuki and Samurai dolls of Japan, Maypole Dance dolls of Hungry, UK&#8217;s Queen Collection are some of the attractions at the museum. There is a doll workshop which is attached to the museum. Here various Indian dolls are handcrafted after doing sufficient research. An interesting part of this museum is the clinic for dolls that are sick or damaged. These dolls are cured here I mean to say they are restored.
