The temperature is rising and few of the cities have witnessed an increment of as much as 5 degree Celsius. The urban heat island phenomenon which tells us that the temperature in cities is comparatively higher than the remaining areas is a considerable proof that we have to take measures to save our environment otherwise the hard times will not wait to approach us.Cities that are popular for calm and composed environment like Coimbatore have been consummated by people at rapid rate. Now it is almost like any concrete city in the country. Reports have revealed that few of the residential projects are getting built in elephant corridors, choking the animal’s way, causing the death of many elephants.Even greener cities like Gangtok have not been spared with the development. The residents get stuck in traffic jams now and pinches of urbanization can be noticed in every street of Gangtok. The situation of metro cities is widely known but it is a point to note that similar condition is breeding in tier II cities of the country. Motorization (increasing no. of vehicles), pollution and increasing number of buildings are affecting the stature of nature.It’s time to act and thus many organizations have made sure that carbon footprints should be reduced.
