MHADA is supposed to develop houses for citizens at affordable prices. The houses are built on the basis of three divisions, that is, lower, middle and high income group. This year the complaint is that houses for middle and higher income groups are so highly priced that there is almost no difference between their prices and prices of those being sold by private contractors. As a result demand for MHADA houses has also dipped.62 houses for the low income group are prices at Rs 10.87 lakh and have a carpet area of 269.32 sq ft. These houses are for people with income of less than Rs 8,000 per month and are the once that received the highest response. These are located at Magathane, Borivali.There are a total of 1,244 houses whose carpet area varies between 180 and 740 sq ft. The prices vary between Rs 6.45 lakh and Rs 75.22 lakh. The most expensive houses (480 units) of 476. 74 sq ft area are located at Tungwa, Powai. The cheapest houses (37 units) with area of 180 sq ft re located at Tubhe-Mandale Mankurd area.Last year there were 1.31 lakh applicants for 2,593 houses. This year there are 1.05 lakh applications for 867 houses.
