\"estamp\"Gurgaon<\/strong>: Many Indian states have already introduced the system of e-stamping. Gurgaon has just become the next city in line to join the trend. Rapid development of residential complexes, industries and MNCs in Gurgaon in the last few years has lengthened the time spent in paying the stamp duty to the government making the process all the more tedious. Therefore the Gurgaon district administration has taken a step towards facilitating the e-stamping system in Gurgaon as well by applying to the state government.The deputy commissioner, P C Meena has written to the state government regarding the introduction of e-stamping. Due to the massive development in Gurgaon Rs 1,250 crore worth of stamp duty was collected in 2012-13. At present stamp duty is usually paid at banks in the form of cash deposits, cheque deposits or through electronic transfer (RTGD- Real Time Gross Settlement).In case of cheque deposit the applicants receives the stamp paper on the third day after the clearance of the cheque. On cash deposit or on RTGS the applicant receives the stamp paper on the second day. In case of RTGS receiving the stamp paper depends on the confirmation of the electronic transfer. Therefore on an average an applicant has to spend two to three days for paying the government the required stamp duty and receiving the stamp paper. The introduction of e-stamping can totally cut on this time as it delivers the stamp paper immediately after the stamp duty is paid electronically.There are also some other factors that can be put in favour of e-stamping such as people carrying money to be deposited as stamp duty are often vulnerable to snatching. Also the income tax department allows only cash deposition of less than Rs 50,000 at a time.
