But it seems that all the efforts of the Corporation are in vain as the number of illegal constructions are neither decreasing nor stopping. The good news is that this has not discouraged the Corporation from trying to bring down illegal construction in the city.On Sunday March 15th the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation identified 70 illegal constructions that have all come up after March 31st, 2012. The Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi confirmed that all these constructions, which are either on reserved plots or plots prone to floods, will be demolished. These are the main reasons why these constructions cannot be regularized.PCMC&#8217;s drive to identify illegal constructions started two years back. It found 1.5 lakh illegal constructions. On a directive from Bombay High Court the PCMC started to demolish illegal constructions from last year. PCMC has filed police complaints against 854 illegal constructions which cover an area of approximately 33.23 lakh sq ft. 205 unauthorized buildings covering an area of 8.27 sq ft had already been pulled down.Illegal construction had been a headache for the state government for long and rounds of meetings with civic bodies, MLAs and civic officials had been held to solve the problem but the government had been unable to take any permanent decision so far. On the other hand many elected members have openly opposed the PCMC&#8217;s drive to demolish unauthorized buildings and have demanded the regularization of these constructions. Fearing violence or disturbance, the PCMC has sought for police security for carrying out the demolition routine.
