So it should come as no surprise if we want to decorate our homes in the same bold and colorful manner. This kind of d\u00e9cor is popularly referred to as &#8216;kitsch&#8217;. The word also refers to a rather cheap and tacky taste but Indian kitsch is cool. And it is permeating our homes as well as our fashion and design. If you want to add a touch of kitschy fashion to your home then the easiest way to do so is by using Indian elements and a generous splash of color everywhere. But there is more to it than just this.<strong>Color<\/strong>: The key to kitsch is color. You can be as playful with the colors as you want to be and that too with over the top bright and loud colors like fluorescent green, fuchsia pink, lemon yellow, red and electric blue. You can use these colors anywhere such as the walls, sofa, cushions, curtains, bed covers or any other furniture. The colors needs not be balances. It can be an odd mix and match and frankly speaking, quite senseless. When it comes to colors, you can look back at the 70s home d\u00e9cor or the Indian trucks for reference.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15231\" alt=\"kitschy-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kitschy-2.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><strong>D\u00e9cor items<\/strong>: In Indian kitsch there is no dearth of decorative items. And many new designers are coming up specializing in kitsch designs. But if you do not want to spend big bucks on designer items just look around and you will see kitsch everywhere. Old film posters, paintings made in Mughal art style, pop art mixed with Indian elements or anything colorful and peppy object can be a part of kitsch d\u00e9cor. You can design your own kitschy item by painting your old tin trunk in a variety of bright opaque colors and using it as a center table or use Photoshop to make your own Andy Warhol painting. You can even take photos of brightly colored elements such as kites, bangles, painted walls and all sorts of street art (that may or may not be considered art at all) and make a photo collage in vibrant colors and hang it in your living room.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15232\" alt=\"kitschy-3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bharatestates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kitschy-3.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><strong>Motifs<\/strong>: Indian kitsch has some very recognizable motifs such as the elephant, Madhubala, Mughal-e-Azam, lotus, Buddha, autorickshaw, scooter, truck etc. Any sort of floral or geometric pattern can suffice as a kitschy motif. Many stores sell items with these motifs and the items vary from bedcovers to mugs, glasses, cushion covers, candle stands, coasters, wall hangings etc.Though you might want to go overboard with these heady colors and designs, it will be advisable not to overdo them. Your overall room d\u00e9cor should match the kitschy element.
