Husain Sagar Lake is one such place in Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is an artificial lake created centuries ago in the year 1562 by Hazrat Husain Shah Wali. It was the time when Hyderabad was under the ruling of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. It was initially built on a branch of Musi River in an area of 5.7 square kilometres. The purpose to build this huge lake was to fulfil the requirements of drinking water and irrigation for the city. This beautiful lake was named after Hussain Shah Wali by the emperor Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in order to convey his gratitude as he helped the emperor to recover his illness.<em>The measurements of the lake are as under:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Length of the lake &#8211; 3.2 kilometres<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Width of the lake \u2013 2.8 kilometres<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Surface area of lake \u2013 4.4 square kilometres<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Maximum depth of lake &#8211; 32 feet<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the year 1992 an artificial island is created at the centre of the lake and on this island a giant monolithic Lord Gautam Buddha Statue is being installed under the Buddha Purnima project. This lake connects two cities, Hyderabad and Secanderabad. There are many attractions around the lake like Sayedani Maa Mosque, Lumbini Amusement Park, partially destroyed statues of famous personalities of state, NTR gardens, captivating Birla Mandir on a nearby hillock, Tank Bund, Necklace Road, Planetarium, etc. the row lights on the banks of lake seems to create a glittering diamond studded necklace in the night when they are switched on. This shimmering road around the lake is known as Necklace Road and it is a planned addition to enhance the charm of Hussain Sagar. Scenic gardens on the sides of the lake, well laid footpaths and well placed benches attracts good crowd here in the evening to breath the fresh and cool air of Hussain Sagar. It is a place to spend time in peace and natural environs as the majestic lake is just irresistible for anyone.The centre island with eighteen meters high monolithic Buddha Statue is standing on a Gibraltar Rock as a part of Buddha Purnima Project 1985. The statue is made up of white granite rock and it weighs about 450 tons. It was not easy to carve such a huge statue and thus it took two hundred sculptors almost two years to create this magnificent structure. The statue was installed on 12th April 1992 on a red lotus plinth. Boat ride is available from Lumbini Park to the Buddha Statue. Once the water of the lake was used as drinking water but currently the water quality is really bad but the government and environment groups are trying to improve the water quality. This lake is popular among visitors for sailing as Regattas are held here since 1971. Hyderabad sailing week also held here since 1984. Speed boats, motor boats, 48 seater launch, etc. are the new facilities provided by the AP government.<strong>How to reach here?<\/strong>APSRTC has several bus services connection Hussain Sagar to other major centres of the city.
