\"NOCNoida<\/strong>: In a bid to preserve the depleting groundwater levels in Noida<\/a>, the Noida Authority, after a meeting last week, has passed an order that will from now on make it mandatory for large building projects to obtain a ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) from the Central Groundwater Authority (CGWA).\u00a0This includes all residential, institutional, commercial or mixed-land projects.<\/span>Big projects need deep digging and draw more water from the underground water reserves for their double or triple basements. Therefore it is important for government authorities to keep a check on these projects as too much extraction of groundwater may lead to sinking of the earth crust and ultimately breaking down of buildings besides other problems. However the exact size of the plot that requires a NOC has not yet been specified. The announcement came after the problem was brought to the front by the National Green Tribunal. The CGWA has announced that the certificate will be issued and building plan will be sanctioned only after officials of CGWA inspect the site and suggest a method for recycling groundwater. This would prevent builders from digging unnecessarily deep and wasting groundwater. A task force will be formed to see that the ban on groundwater extraction is being abided to.
