\"Covelong-Beach\"There are many places in and around Chennai to spend a pleasant weekend or a day trip. In this article I am taking you to one such place that is not only historic but also adventurous. Not very far from the city it is just one hour drive from city or forty kilometres south of Chennai. The name of this place is Covelong which is also called Kovalam and Cobelon. Covelong comes in the Kanchepuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu.Popularly known as the fishing village among the locals but actually if you take dip into its history you come to know that it was a port town which was created and developed by the Nawab of Carnatic. His name was Saadat Ali. But unfortunately during the eighteenth century in the year 1746 French soldiers took over it. And then their joy didn’t last for a long time as the port was destroyed by British Rulers just after six years in the year 1752. Sometimes I feel what would be the face of India if there were no invaders in its history. I do not understand why everyone was so\u00a0magnetized\u00a0with India and tried to loot the rich heritage.I want to tell you one important fact at this point that India is a country that never ever ruled or attacked any country in the world. I think we should be proud of the fact. The village of Covelong is located in the south of Chennai<\/a> on the route of Mahabalipuram on the east coast Road. Now after French and British Dutch appeared here and built a fort here during the colonial period. We Indians have a habit of turning something old into glaring and attractive without destroying it. That is what we did with this fort. It is currently converted into very luxurious private beach resort and named Taj Fisherman’s Cove. The Covelong Beach is one of the most tranquil beaches on the Coromandel Coast line.You might be thinking why this place is called adventurous then let me inform you that this beach village is among those few places on the entire east coast where wind surfing is allowed. The beach is a quite scenic and worth spending weekend in its soothing environs. Try your hand on wind surfing and other water sports for an extra adventurous activity. Clear skies, calm water, soothing wind, sparkling white sand with dazzling seashells and refreshing palm trees at the coast makes you feel like haven.The best thing about this place is that you can visit this place all through the year as the weather is never harsh here. You won\u2019t find many tourists here so you can spend your perfect weekend in peace with nature and naughty waves of magnificent sea. Visiting the historic fort is not a bad idea if you want to add history to your pleasant trip. There is a catholic church here. It is quite a tall and popular church in the region so be a little spiritual and visit the church too. If after all this you still have some spare time then extend your journey to Mahabalipuram which is a religious place and of course an ancient place as the temples constructed here dates back to sixth to eighth centuries. Mahabalipuram is just 19 kilometres away from Covelong beaches.Accessibility<\/strong>City of Chennai is well connected by bus services provided by Metropolitan Transport Corporation and TNSTC Villupuram.Temperature<\/strong>During summers the temperature is 300c -400c while in winters it is 100c- 220c.Distance from Chennai to Covelong<\/strong>Approximately 40 kilometresExpected time to cover the distance<\/strong>Maximum one hour by carFood and restaurants<\/strong>There are many restaurants on the way and in Covelong too.The route to Covelong<\/strong>Chennai->Teynampet-> Kotturpuram-> Kanathur-> Reddikuppam->Centre point->CovelongRUCHI MAHAJAN<\/strong><\/p>\n
