But that’s just one fragment of our very sacred festival, Makar Sankranti. When the sun glares over the head on the holy morning of this day, it shifts to the Capricorn zodiac i.e. Makar, marking the name and the significance of the festivity. The celebrations to mark the end of winter solstice, beginning of the season of harvest and the genesis of a new spirit, falls all over the country in different colors.

Mainly a harvest festival in most parts of the country, termed as Pongal in Tamilnadu, Lohri and Maghi in Punjab and Bihu in Assam, Sankranti is enjoyed by praying, expressing devotion, taking dip in the holy Ganga, preparing food, eating, flying kites and with the families and neighbours.Collections of stories are in multifold to dignify the day. One of being the cessation of the demons by the hands of Lord Vishnu on this day, other being the stepping of lord sun to his son Saturn’s (Shani) house (they were having some personal problems, hence they don’t use to get along much). There is no end to the myths and epics, Makar Sankranti is however lived by the joyous enthusiasm without taking care of stories, but the values and traditions are respected in all ways. The day is an important day of commemoration, merriment and feasting. It is inevitable that the diverse traditions of the country will have its own way of enjoying the fest. Exchanging of food is one of the ways people spread happiness in the society. Different states have their own unique way; Maharashtra is famous for the exchanging of halwa and til-gud ladoos (sweets made from sesame seeds and jaggery). Huge bonfires are kindled and people dance around it in Punjab. Famous sweets like Ghevar and Gajak are relished in Rajasthan. In the south it’s different; Pongal is cooked in the early morning of Pongal (Sankranti of South) which is boiled rice in fresh milk. The Northern India is famous for its holy Ganga dip in Allahabad and Varanasi and also for the tasty Khichdi (same in Bihar). There may be infinite ways of celebration in the unfathomable magnitude of traditions and cultures in the country, the Makar Sankranti is celebrated anyhow, what matters is that it brings smile on our faces, gratitude in our heart and hope in our eyes.

займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн

14th of January is a felicitous day to fly the kite, fight with other kites and win the kites.
