The architecture of the city indicates that. There are many ancient monuments and places in the city reflecting Mughal style of designing. Humayun’s Tomb is one such architectural excellence. It is also popularly known as Humayun Ka Makbara means the resting place of Humayun. Humayun was one of the influential Mughal Emperors in sixteenth century. He died in the year 1556 AD.After many years of his death his widow Hamida Banu Begum who is said to be his second wife started building this Tomb in the year 1562 in Mughal Architectural style. The architect of this monument was Mirak Mirza Ghiyath who was a Persian. The Humayun’s Tomb is situated quite close to the crossing of Mathura Road and Lodi Road in Nizamuddin East in Delhi. The Purana Qila (Old Fort) founded by Humayun in the year 1533 is located nearby. You must be surprised to know that this lavish tomb is the first of its kind with gardens built in the entire Indian Subcontinent. The red stone used to create this magnificent structure was first time used in such a quantity. Due to its historic and architectural importance in the field of ancient monuments this site is declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1993 after a lot of misuse, damage and restoration work over the years. Still the site is undergoing restoration works in order to preserve its originality. There is not only one tomb but the premises hold many such tombs of people from Mughal Empire. One of the tombs even created twenty years before the Humayun’s tomb and that is of Isa Khan Niyazi who was a member of Sher Shah Suri’s court during Suri’s regime. He was an Afgani who was said to be fought to Mughals. His tomb was created in the year 1547. Humayun’s tomb is the main tomb in the premise. The same complex that has Humayun’s tomb also include his wife Hamida Begum’s grave, Shah Jahan’s Son Dara Shikoh’s tomb and some other graves that include Emperor Jahandar Shah, Farrukhsiyar, Rafi Ul Darjat, Rafi Ud Daulat, Alamgir II.Initially there used to be quite simple Mausoleum but then the tradition to create lavish garden tombs came with Humayun. The Taj Mahal of Agra is one such magnificent example of royal Mausoleum. The Charbaug or the garden squares are one of the attractions here. There are walkways water channels in the gardens. Domes are seen in the tomb designs here. The last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar who took refuge here along with his three sons in 1857 was caught by British from this place only.Humayun liked Persian architecture as he came to know about Persian style while on exile. Some people say that he might have planned his own tomb to be built in Persian Mughal style but there is lack of evidence to prove this. His distinct royal tomb took almost fifteen lakh Rupees that are 1.5 million Rupees to construct at that time. At the centre of a square garden situated the tomb of Humayun. It is a square double storied structure made up of using red sandstone. There are seven meter square terraces and many chambers that can be reached by both the sides but to reach the grave you need to enter from the passage in the south. The central hall is of octagonal shape contains the main tomb and the other chambers at the diagonal direction houses tombs of other royal family members. All the tombs in the complex are decorated with marble panels but the central tomb dominates the remaining. There is double dome of marble has a height of 42.5 meters at the centre on the roof. There Chhataris around the double dome. It is one of finest Mughal architecture that has reflection of Persian style in India.Opening timingsThis place is open for visitors from sunrise till sunset.Entrance feeChildren up to the age of fifteen are not charged but adults have to pay a certain amount to visit the place.RUCHI MAHAJAN

Check out more Picnic spots near Delhi here.

займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн

Delhi is place where Mughal emperors ruled for centuries.
